Long being Italy's major sparkling wine-producing region, Lombardy has been the home to Spumante-type wine with Metodo Classico, referring to the natural fermentation of grapes in the bottles. Hence, Lombardy is famous for its Franciacorta DOCG, which some even compare it with Champagne from France.
